We optimized the running rigging systems for one of the world’s tallest masts which was built in 2012 . We supplied a customised rope package to exceed theoretical working loads. We carried out extensive destruction testing of the lines to verify manufacturer’s specifications at our in-house facility. Following a test sail, we designed a safe elegant solution for connecting the genoa sheet to the clew and supplied a prototype which was successfully sail-trialled and has led to the production of two further units used on the boat every day. In 2015 the yacht was now renamed Ahimsa and Marine Results was once again taking care of the rig. A trip she was taking round the world was interrupted due to a lightning strike in Costa Rica. Ed Danby flew in to the scene and after he carried out an initial local inspection the yacht was moved to San Diego to have the rig pulled out. There, it became apparent that Ahimsa’s towering 83m (272ft) mast was probably the largest ever to be unstepped in the United States. When Ed first arrived to inspect the rig for possible damage he spent four days up in the rig of the 66m (216ft) sloop carrying out a thorough NDT advanced ultrasound inspection. It was then that the yacht was moved to San Diego where there were facilities that enabled the rig to be removed by a team from Marine Results. The mast and rigging were given a further inspection using the company’s advanced NDT equipment. All the fittings were dismantled and a report was made to the mast manufacturer ready for insurance purposes. Ed comments “We were able once again to mobilise our international team at short notice, this time to San Diego. At the same time we were able to take care of a range of logistics, including arranging for the mast cradles to be built locally.” The rig is expected to be reassembled in February, when the yacht can resume her trip.

Spring 2021: Asahi is a regular customer of Marine Results. We have just finished servicing her rig again for this 2021 season. Like many of the other yachts we work on her main mast is a formidable size, standing in at 58.3m(192ft), even the mizzen is 47.97m (157ft).
May 2020: The beautiful Perini-built Asahi, formerly Riela was given a full service over the winter of 2019/2020 in Palma by the Marine Results team. The 56m/184ft ketch rigged yacht features a 58.3m (192ft) main mast and 47.97m (157ft) mizzen mast so the unstepping and re-stepping was a major operation.

The complete mast service and an OYS recommend 8 year refit to the standing rigging was undertaken at our La Ciotat, France, base. The Marine Results Palma team stepped the fore and main masts of the beautiful classic schooner Borkumriff IV in Palma during the 2023 summer. This 50.58m Royal Huisman build underwent a full rig service on the dockside at STP. Her two masts were unstepped and surveyed before modifications were made to allow the installation of new Harken switch gate tracks, after which the masts were re-stepped. The fittings were serviced in our Palma workshop and all high load fittings were tested using florescent water washable dye penetrant inspection methods.

Christopher, at 46 metres (150’11″ft) in length, is a luxury ketch built by Pendennis Shipyard in the UK. Marine Results has looked after the yacht’s rigging requirements for nearly a decade. The main and mizzen masts were unstepped in Palma and components dismantled and inspected. We serviced the furler, working with our rig partner Reckmann. The fittings were shipped to the Marine Results UK facility for servicing. Our associate company International NDT tested all the high load fittings using Flourescent Water Washable Dye penetrant inspection methods. A rig inspection which took place on this classic yacht in Singapore revealed a list of tasks that needed to be carried out. After a delay due to Covid travel restrictions the Marine Results team was able to return to the yacht and supplied deck equipment working together with the yard where she is undergoing a refit.

We inspected the rig and half a tonne of metal components in our dye penetrant facility after the yacht suffered a violent grounding. Each component was run through our test facility with only one failure, a mizzen mast V1 deck toggle whose failure was almost certainly caused by the grounding.

Spring 2021: Full OEM standing rigging service on the dockside at Palma. November 2019: The Marine Results Palma team carried out some further work on SY Huckleberry changing a corroded headstay foil. Previous to this Marine Results has done a number of jobs on Huckleberry including in 2012 deploying our fully mobile operation to Newport RI to unstep the spars for inspection, as well as carrying out an OYS rod service. We serviced the Navtec hydraulics and specified and supplied new rope work. The work was completed in thick snow!

Marine Results continues to be closely involved with Hyperion ever since carrying out a full mast refit at the 8 year service date, a number of years ago. The rig exerts 200 tonnes of compression at the base, and has 59km of wiring and 13,000 square feet of sail area. Videos show the complexity of the task, and the amount of plant, machinery and people that are involved. Ed Danby sails regularly onboard Hyperion for events, including the St Barth’s Bucket, most recently in 2022. As always, he keeps an eye on the rig and makes any recommendations necessary to maintain it to the highest standard during these visits. Most recently our Palma team unstepped the mast in 2022 to carry out a full service as well as replacing the majority of her running rigging.
At the time of her build, Hyperion was the largest sloop ever built with her 59m mast.

The rig of SY Kokomo is serviced by our team. Dedicated cranes had to be brought over from the mainland to STP in Palma where the yacht is located during service periods, both to unstep and restep the huge mast. The rig work is part of a continued service programme. Over the years we have closely maintained the rig of Kokomo including her annual service, in conjunction with suppliers BSI for the rigging components and Reckmann for furler work. Her mast is believed to be the tallest ever to be unstepped in Palma. Kokomo III’s mast was built by Southern Spars in carbon fibre, and is stayed with Nitronic 50 rod and EC6 carbon stays with a lifting weight of 21 tons. Marine Results, who are NDT (non-destructive testing) and rigging specialists, carry out this type of work, which includes inspecting all components, using advanced NDT techniques, indicating if there are any wearing or faulty components in need of replacing. The team also remove all the fittings ready for the mast to be painted by Rolling Stock. Click here to watch the footage that took place in 2016.

Our team tuned L’Hippocampe’s mast in Italy, then headed out on sail trails and is continuing to support the yacht.

Marine Results have carried out a number of projects on this historic round the world racing yacht made famous for being the first all-women crewed yacht in the Whitbread Round the World Race, back in 1989. Now refurbished and representing the charitable foundation The Maiden Factor, the yacht travels to raise awareness of the need for female education. In 2022 Marine Results carried out a full rig inspection and supplied new rope while Maiden was on a stopover in Palma. Most recently in 2023 we returned to the yacht to prepare her for the Ocean Globe Race which started in October. The mast was removed and rod rigging and high load fittings inspected using our dye penetrant method, plus an ultrasound inspection of mast and spreaders. We also supplied a new boom and spinnaker pole, then reinstalled and trialled the rig. The Maiden crew worked alongside us picking up tips for carrying out ropework maintenance while at sea.

Marine Resuts has continued to care for the immense mast and rig of m5 (formerly Mirabella) ever since she was launched. In 2022 we travelled to her in Costa Rica to carry out maintenance and in 2020, a largescale rig overhaul took place in conjunction with the yacht’s five-year Lloyd’s survey. The work was carried out at NCA shipyard in Italy, which is one of very few refit yards with the capacity and hard standing space to work on such a massive rig. Here the team were able to lift the mast out for inspection, and eventually re-step it. Final inspections and sailing testing were carried out in 2022 after which m5 resumed her sailing programme. We work closely with partners Carbo-link for the rigging and Bamar for the furlers. m5 is STILL the largest single masted sloop in the world.
Through 2023 we have continued to support M5. Included in our services was the manufacturer of some specialist rope tensioners for a pre-feeder on a Seaway Powell captive winch which was supplied back in 2012. We fitted these to M5 in San Diego. The tensioners, which are engineered to make line handling safer, are just one example of the company’s advanced design expertise. We work with a number of manufacturing partners to produce these specialist custom components.

Marine Results has carried out several maintenance projects on the imposing 88m 289 ft superyacht Maltese Falcon. A major refit involved the removal, survey, supply and refit of a full set of Kevlar standing rigging. Seventy-two Kevlar stays in total were replaced. We removed and serviced all the sail control sheaves, replacing each central composite bearings with new ones. We serviced the rigs and completed routine maintenance of each of the custom built JP3 500 tonne bearings, which lie at the deck level of the huge rotating masts. Maltese Falcon’s innovative DynaRig sail design allows the masts to rotate depending on wind direction. Each bearing allows the mast above it to rotate under extreme load. This inspection is required for insurance standards and is carried out every 100,000 miles or 5 years. We carry out regular visual inspection of her three masts and yards, as well as supplying bespoke lifting strops to her tenders. We continue to work closely with Maltese Falcon.

This Farr designed cruising maxi underwent a complete mast service, hydraulic service and NDT inspection as well as the supply of new running rigging. Matelot went on to take line honours in the 2007 ARC rally. In 2012 Marine Results supplied a complete set of Navtec standing rigging while the yacht was being refitted in La Ciotat. In 2013 the mast was unstepped in Newport, RI, for routine servicing. We carried out ultrasound and dye penetrant inspections of the mast and rigging.

We have nearly a decade of history looking after the rig of the mighty luxury 170ft/52m Dubois designed cruising yacht, formerly Kokomo, and have even put a crew on board for the St Barth’s Bucket superyacht regatta and Dubois Cup. we were recently in Vilanova to carry out the annual service on the rig. Back in 2014 we installed a crow’s nest and have also replaced the yacht’s lifelines in Turkey and provided a partial new rope package. We have also removed the rig and carried out inspections at service intervals .

Our team carried out a comprehensive five year service as part of the sale process when the replica of the 1934 J Class Yacht Rainbow changed hands during the 2015 summer. Marine Results were able to carry out the service on a very fast turnaround time that was requested by the new owner. The 170 ft (53m) rig had already been removed at Holland Jachtbouw, the yard which built the replica of the famous yacht first built for the America’s Cup in 1934. The team carried out the ultrasound of the mast and a dye pentrant inspection of the standing rigging components. The ECsix carbon rod rigging package was also serviced, after which the rig was reassembled. Once the rig was back in the boat Jon Morris accompanied the crew on sail trials, to check that everything was in order.

Red Dragon’s mast is out for a service again with us this winter (2022). The task will be similar to four years ago when Marine Results refurbished the rig of this Dubois designed 169.62ft /51.7. We supplied new rigging and brackets for ancillary mast-mounted equipment such as radar. The rig was fully inspected and new rigging components supplied and installed, before the rig was restepped.

Her two masts were unstepped and surveyed, and modifications were made to the booms. A full re-rig was carried out as well as the supply of all new running rigging, before the mast was re-stepped. Our Palma team has just provided our new Load Testing capabilities to carry out a full crane inspection on board M/Y Shemara, one of the world’s most elegant classic motor yachts. Built in 1938, Shemara underwent a complete restoration some ten years ago. She is now benefitting from new lifting equipment built by Marine Results which will be used for rescue tenders, other boats and equipment.

The masts were removed from the 50m Perini ketch Silencio by the Marine Results team at the NCA Refit facility in Carrera. Whilst the rigging service was carried out the yacht had a makeover of her superstructure in time for the summer season. After servicing the rigging and components the team returned to the site in Italy to prepare the masts for re-stepping so she was ready to go sailing again. Marine Results carried out a service inspection to the rig of Valquest in accordance with insurance regulations which are increasingly requiring yachts to have an annual inspection. A full inspection involves removing the rig every 5 years. The team removed the mast and replaced all the rods, stripping and servicing all fixtures and fittings. The mast components were painted while the rig was out of the boat. Marine Results worked in conjunction with Composite Works.

Vertigo is an example of the repeat business that Marine Results is proud of. In 2021 we gave the rig its annual service, following on from the previous year’s major rig unstepping and overhaul. Then, both rigs of this Phillipe Briand designed ketch were unstepped in Spain and a thorough visual inspection was undertaken from deck level to the top of the rigs. After the rigs were restepped our engineers accompanied the 67.2 metre sailing superyacht during sea trials. We worked with Rig-Pro (Future Fibres) for the rigging service and Reckmann for the furler service.

The magnificent 52 metre ketch Xasteria was built by Perini Navi. At Olympic Marine in Lavrio, Greece we pulled out the main and mizzen masts and project managed a service of the standard rigging in conjunction with our regular partners Ocean Yacht Systems. The rods were shipped to the UK for servicing in accordance with the rigging manufacturers’ guidelines and then reinstalled before returning the rigs to the yacht in May 2021. The whole project was preceded by a rig survey and from the results we then made our professional recommendations. During the project we used the expertise of our associate company International NDT to test all the high load fittings using Flourescent Water Washable Dye Penetrant inspection methods. We also serviced the electrical/hydraulic furlers at this time. Finally we undertook sea trials.
